HOLT, HELEN MARGARET - Helen Margaret Holt, 92 of Middleton, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Ocean View Continuing Care Centre, Eastern Passage. Born March 13, 1919 in Granville Ferry, Annapolis County, she was the daughter of the late Harold Troop and Maud Helen (Clifford) Amberman and wife of the late Noel Stanley Holt. Margaret and Stan lived in Middleton, Nova Scotia for many years. Margaret was a very giving person, concerned about others all her life and for many years worked as an unpaid dispatcher, a jail guard and mentor for many young runaway girls, both for the Middleton Police and the local RCMP. For many years, Margaret worked at the Middleton Tourist Bureau assisting both locals and visitors to reach their destinations throughout Nova Scotia. Later in life, Margaret enjoyed playing golf. She also spent many hours at the DVA Veterans Unit at Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, bringing joy to the residents, providing company for them by dancing for them and with them. She is survived by her daughter Janet (Rick McFarlane), Saint John, NB and son Gary (Nancy) Dartmouth. She is remembered fondly by her very dear friend, Sally Dennison of Middleton. Margaret was predeceased by three sisters Dorothy Brown, Edith Beckwith and Inez Hutchison and one brother, Harold and one step-brother Eric.
Margaret is resting at the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, Middleton, Nova Scotia. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 pm, Saturday, February 25 and 1 to 3 pm, Sunday, February 26, 2012 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825 3448. A funeral service will be held 11:00AM, Monday, February 27th in the Middleton Funeral Home, Rev. Dr. Bill MacDougall officiating, interment to follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton, Nova Scotia. A reception for family and friends will be held at the Middleton Funeral Home. Donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the DVA Veterans Unit, Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton.
