Hugh Crawford
CRAWFORD, HUGH - Mr. Hugh Underwood Crawford of Station Street, Blackville passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 86. The son of Harold Charles and Ethel Barbara Evelyn Crawford, Hugh was a clerk for the Department of National Defense for 32 years. He was a member of St Andrew’s United Church, where he was an Elder and served on various committees, including the Cemetery Committee. Hugh enjoyed bowling, local history, genealogy, politics and poetry. He also spent his time collecting antiques, square dancing and traveling. Mr. Hugh Crawford is survived by three sisters, Margaret Crawford of Blackville, NB; Katherine Crawford of Fredericton, NB and Caroline Atkinson (Bruce) of Fredericton, NB. He is also survived by one brother, George A. Crawford (Elaine J.) of Fredericton, NB. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, John Thomas and Charles Wilson.
There was no visitation for Mr. Hugh Underwood Crawford. The funeral service was held on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 1pm at St Andrew’s United Church in Blackville with Dean Lawrence officiating, assisted by Rev. Charlotte Youland. Organist was Susan Crawford Brophy. Hymns were “I Am Thine, O Lord”, “When the Roll is called up Younder” and “In the Bulb There is a Flower”. Memories were given by Lorna Rogers. A poem “The Beautiful Miramichi” was read by Elaine Crawford. Burial will be in the United Church Cemetery in the spring. In Hugh’s memory, donations made to the Alzheimer’s Society of New Brunswick or to a memorial of one’s choice would be appreciated.
