It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Mary ‘Mamie’ Leonard, announce the passing of a dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, on Saturday, March 10, 2012.
Mary was a resident of Waterford Heights since mid-November and a long time resident of Colby Street.
Born August 30, 1921 in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Jane (Hiley) Landry.
Mom is survived by her children, Betty McLean (Tom Spencer), Howie Centre, James (Laurel), Australia, Pat (Bill) Burrows, Moncton, Mary Jane (Leo) Kyte, Sydney and Gerard (Debbie), Albert Bridge. Nanny is survived by 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. Mamie is survived by her sister, Marjorie Reitzel, Kitchener and her brother, Bernie (Gayle), Northside East Bay. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends including the late John Pierre’s family.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Jim; sister, Nora MacDonald; brothers, James, Louis, Robert and George; son-in-law, Don McLean; grandson, Mike McLean and special friend, John Pierre.
Mom was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and was a long time member of the CWL. She was also an avid card player.
We would like to thank the staff of Waterford Heights for the wonderful care and kindness shown to Mom during her short stay.
There will be no visitation at Mom’s request. A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church on Saturday, March 17 at 10 a.m., with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or a charity of one’s choice.
