It is with great sadness we announce the passing of James Forrest, age 73, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother on Monday, March 12, 2012 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care in Sydney, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney Mines, James was the son the late George and Mary (MacDonald) Forrest. James worked for Devco as a coal miner for many years until his retirement. He played baseball with the Branch 8 Legion in Sydney Mines and was also a member of the Colliery League Bowling Team.
James is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mildred (LeMoine) Forrest; his sons, Harold Forrest (Carla), Scarborough, Ont., Tim Forrest (Catherine), Ajax, Ont.; his daughters, Bonnie Grant (Dennis), Sydney, Elizabeth Forrest, Alder Point, Carmen Boudreau (Brad), Barrachois, and eight grandchildren James, Nathan, Brett, Dylan, Riley, Bronwyn, Fallyn and Leah; his sisters, Bessie (Neil) Pardy, Florence, Catherine (Wilfred) Herridge, Sydney Mines, Margaret Phillipo, Ont.; two brothers, George ‘Brother’ Forrest and Sidy Forrest both of North Sydney; his sister-in-law, Levina Forrest, Sydney Mines; brother-in-law, Sid Tobin, North Sydney and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, John (Pally) and Angus Forrest; sisters, Libby Tobin and Dorothy (Joe) O’Connell.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service for James will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial to take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Cancer Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
