It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Geraldine Martell (McDonald), 79, of Dominion.
Gerry, as she was known to everyone, died suddenly at home on Monday, March 12, 2012.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Dan Jimmy and Margaret (McDonald) McDonald.
Gerry enjoyed spending time with her family and also enjoyed walking along the Dominion beach boardwalk. She was truly dedicated to raising her family and was a kind and caring person.
Gerry resided most of her life in Dominion and was married for 53 years to her husband Robert ‘Bobby.’
Besides her husband, she is survived by daughters, Peggy, Glace Bay, Brenda (Darrell) Davidson, Bridgeport, Linda, Halifax, Debbie (Troy) Gouthro, Cambridge, Ont., Tracey, Lingan; sons, Ralph (Claudia), Dartmouth, Brian (Ellen), Lower Sackville, David (Wendy), Howie Centre. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Chris, Vanessa, Jonathan, Justin, Heather, Jennifer, Scott, Andrew, Bryson, Adam, Ryan, Riley and Olivia; two great-grandchildren, Gracie and Noah. Gerry is also survived by her sisters, Cellie, Dominion, and Estelle (Billy) Usher, Edmonton, Alta.
She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved son, Danny, brothers, Dan, Joseph and Aral, sisters, Anna and Shirley.
“My children I die, I am leaving this valley, I beg you, never forget me! Stay united among yourselves, stay firm in our faith. Soon we will be reunited in heaven.”
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday from 1-2 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating.
Family flowers only please. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerry’s memory can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
