Sarah Wilimina “Sadie” Weir - 78, of White Rock, Kings County, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012 at home following a short battle with cancer. Born in Forest Home, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Sarah (Arenburg) Butler. She attended school in Blue Mountain and went to work as a nurse’s aid at the BFM Hospital, Kentville, where she had been employed until meeting the love of her life, Chesley Weir. She then focused her life on being a homemaker and raising their seven children. Having accomplished that, she returned to the work force working at Noggins Corner Farm. She was a hard worker and took great pride in everything she did. Early in life, she enjoyed dancing, bowling and bingo and in recent years, attending card parties, playing dominos and most of all enjoying spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Canaan Baptist Church and a former member of the Greenwich Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by daughters, Pat (Ward) Dunham, West Halls Harbour; June (Ted) Bruce, Falmouth; Kathy (Ken) Sharpe, Avonport; sons, Andy (Phyllis) Weir and Joe (Mary) Weir, both of Canaan; Archie (Marilyn) Weir, Kentville; son-in-law, Lee Gee, Canaan; special friend and companion, Al Sipley, Berwick; sister, Hilda Cullen, Trenton, Ontario; brother, Donald Butler, Kentville; grandchildren, Tammy, Carrie, Michelle, Melissa, Christine, Dale, Jennifer, Michael, Katrina, Monique, Serena, Dylan, Destiny, Tiffany, Jonathan, Stacie, Samantha, Ashley, Dougie and Alyssa; step grandchildren, Nicole, Philip, Theresa and Kevin; 18 great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren and all the many foster children that enhanced her life. She was predeceased by her husband, Chesley “Chet” Weir; daughters, Wanda Weir and Sandy Gee; sisters, Gladys, Mamie, Hattie, Leah, Nellie, Susie and Jennie; brothers, Fred, George, Perry, Avard and Edgar. Visitation was held from 3:30-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, Reverend Barb Durling officiating. Burial took place in the Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. A special thank you to Dr. Bob Mullen, Dr. Anne Gordon, Dr. Rheaume, Dr. Lori Burgess, Paulette Gash, the Annapolis Valley VON and Reverend Barb Durling. A sincere thank you to Wendy Spidle and a very special niece as well as all the family and friends that helped with the care of our dear mother over the past two months. Donations in memory may be made to the Canaan Baptist Church, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses.
