She was the fifth child of twelve born to the late Earl Stanley Damon and Eleanor Bemis Corbett Damon. While studying she worked at Clarendon Street Baptist Church and volunteered at the Italian Mission in Boston. Following a year of graduate study in Christian Education, she worked as a rural missionary in the Upper Kennebec Valley, ME. In 1936 Thelma married her Gordon classmate, Rev. Abner J. While raising her four children, Thelma taught Sunday School; wrote and directed Christmas and Easter plays. She published five books, the last in her 95th year titled "Big Fish for Small Fry". Following her husband's death in 1987, Thelma continued to travel: not only to Damon family reunions in Massachusetts or to growing family in Canada , but also to Oberammergau, Germany, at age 90, to attend the Passion Play.
