STEIN: Wayne Alfred Stein age 69 of Medicine Hat, AB passed away March 22, 2012 at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. The funeral Mass was held at 11:00 A.M., March 30, 2012 from Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, Swift Current, with Father James Owolagba officiating. Music for the Mass was provided by pianist Marlene Dolter and Al Metevier on Guitar. The readers were: Laurel Stein, Alison Braaten and Cheryl Pavlovic. The interment service followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Landen Stein, A.J. Stein, Kerry Braaten, Tony Pavlovic, Dwight Willett and Gregory Nagel. Honorary pallbearers were: Kathy & Mark Harty, Martha Harty, John & Loretta Mattus, Don & Joyce Cowan and Gordon & Kay Shaner. Wayne is survived by: his brother and sister-in-law, Leonard & Evelyn Stein; nephews: Landen Stein (Barbara), A.J. Stein (Carolyn), Gregory Nagel & Fiance Amanda; neices: Laurel Stein (Dwight Willett), Alison Braaten (Kerry), Cheryl Pavlovic (Tony), Monica Stein, Nola Stein (Peter Christensen) as well as the children and grandchildren of his nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Albert John and Mary Frances Irene Stein (nee: Castagner; a sister Phyllis Nagel; brother-in-law Heinz Nagel and a niece Peggy Nagel. Wayne was born at his parents home at 44 - 2nd Ave. N.E., Swift Current, SK, across the street from the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He attended elementary school at the St. Joan of Arc Academy in Swift Current, SK. He moved to Calgary with his parents in 1970, where he briefly helped at fixing telephones and in kitchen preperation work. When his parents moved to Medicine Hat in 1995 he accompanied them. There he worked at a Bottle Depot in a Social Training progran for a couple of years. Wayne lived alone in Medicine Hat after his Parents passed away. He was fortunate to have some caring people who watched over him, over the past few years in Medicine Hat. He was an avid sports fan. Hockey and especially the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He knew all the stats. and names of players and coaches. Wayne had many struggles through his life and serveral health issues in the past few years, and was diagnosed with Cancer in January of 2012.
