Frank Allen Harvie - 78, of Kentville, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Kentville, he was the son of the late William and Myrtle (Carey) Harvie. He was a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces and served nine years with the West Nova Scotia Regiment. He was a meat cutter by trade and had been employed in the grocery industry, worked in the woods, drove a truck and was a machine operator/supervisor with Kentville Publishing for 23 years, retiring due to ill health. He was an active member of the Wolfville Ridge Baptist Church, where he was a member of the choir. Frank was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville, where he served many years with the Poppy Campaign. He joined the I.O.O.F Hiawatha Lodge No. 57, Kentville in 1976 and was a Past Nobel Grand, Past District Deputy Grand Master and had received an award of merit for his contributions to the lodge. He was also a member of St. Eulalie Rebekah Lodge No. 27, Kentville. He enjoyed gardening, camping, dancing, cooking and playing cards. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his adored wife, Edna. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Edna Carter; a daughter, Debbie Peterson (Luc Robichaud), Oromocto, New Brunswick; two sons, Bob (Robbie Hill), Winnipeg; Terry (Michelle), Pictou; three sisters, Sally (Fred) Smith, Kentville; Margaret (Edgar) Bishop, Kentville; Faye Meister, New Minas; three brothers, William (Dora) Harvie, New Minas; Wayne “Joe” (Helen) Harvie, Upper Dyke; Fred “Buzz” Harvie, Porter’s Point; seven grandchildren, Nicole Harvie (Jason Sehl), Monique Harvie (Adam Cudmore), Bobbi Lynn Peterson (Joe Stewart), Jennifer (Dave) MacKenzie, Andrew Peterson (Ronnalee Hewitt), Danny (Pam) Harvie and Debbi Harvie (Ryan Mader); six great grandchildren, Keenan, Kasey, Abbie, Taylor, Logan and Rylan; several nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Allison. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2012 with a Royal Canadian Legion service held at 7:00 p.m. and a combined I.O.O.F. and Rebekah Lodge service to be held at 8:00 p.m. all in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012, Reverend Robert Burbidge and Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to Visual Eye Research or the Wolfville Ridge Baptist Church.
