It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the passing of Gerald McDonald, Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with his family by his side.
Born in Toronto, Ont., he was the son of the late Hector and Sadie (Campbell) McDonald. He was a member of the Baha’i faith.
Gerald was a creator of unique woodcarvings which grace the homes of many who appreciated his talents, especially in Eskasoni homes including the library of the Eskasoni Elementary School.
Gerry enjoyed playing the guitar, he was noted for his fingerpicking and his love of music. He was known for his dry sense of humour and Gerry was always open to a good joke.
Gerry is survived by his daughter, Jessica McDonald, Sydney; and son, Doron McDonald, Edmonton, Alta.; the mother of his children, Bibiane Lessard; granddaughter, Nevaeh; sisters, Christine (Silvio) Scalzo, Montreal, Marie McDonald (George Aitken), Ontario; brothers, Floyd (Betty) McDonald, Ontario, Neil (Sharon) McDonald, Ontario; as well as nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Reception to follow. Burial to take place in St. Barra’s Church Cemetery, Christmas Island.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Loaves and Fishes or charity of choice.
