102, of Bedford, NS passed away April 2, 2012 at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital.
Born in 1910 in Bristol, PEI, Winnie was the daughter of Ernest and Lottie MacEwen. Winnie’s career as a teacher spanned decades taking her to a number of PEI communities and Western Canada before settling in the Halifax area. She married Ron Watt in 1970 and spent many exceptional years together living on Dakin Drive in Bedford until Ron passed away in 1992. At 88 years of age Winnie married lifelong friend Ernest Weeks in 1998, the two spent many enjoyable years traveling together before settling in Ottawa. After Ernest’s passing in 2006, Winnie moved back home to her favourite place, Bedford, where she spent her remaining years living independently in the community. Winnie can boast as being one of the few 102 year olds in the world with her own car, traveling about getting groceries and enjoying her independence. Winnie’s last trip was to PEI in 2008 to vacation with family.
She is survived by her grandchildren: Derek (Linda) MacEwen, Blake MacEwen, Brett (Guylaine) Judson, Dale (Teena) Judson, Cindy Wedge, Cheryl Judson; great-grandchildren: Dylan, Brett and Niki MacEwen, Megan MacEwen, William, Emma and Madeleine Judson, Cody Taylor and Sarah Judson, Hannah Wedge, Ben Judson; also, daughter–in-law Terry MacEwen; son-in-law Charlie Lank.
She is predeceased by her husband, Harry MacEwen, husband (married in 1970) Ron Watt, husband (married in 1998) Ernie Weeks; daughter, Ruth Lank (MacEwen); son, Kenneth MacEwen; sisters, Alice, Blanch, May; brothers, Bob, Leigh, Ralph, Fred; grandson, Bob MacEwen.
Memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 18, 3:00 p.m. at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (902) 455-0531. Friends are invited to a celebration of Winnie’s life after the service for some light snacks and refreshments. Private burial will be held in the spring in Summerside, PEI.
