It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our father and grandfather, Archibald Nippard, 93, on Sunday, April 8, 2012, at his home.
Born in Deep Bay, Fogo Island, N.L., he was the son of the late Levi and Harriett (Waterman) Nippard.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the British Royal Navy. He worked as a seaman all his life, and was employed for many years with CN Marine and later on the Marine Atlantic Vessels until his retirement in 1983. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #19, North Sydney, and a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. He loved watching wrestling, The Price Is Right and Wheel of Fortune on TV, and enjoyed fishing and playing cards. Archibald was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Archibald is survived by his son, Levi (Liz), Nippard, North Sydney, and daughter, Dora (Tony) O’Connell, Gilbert Plains, Manitoba; five grandchildren, Derek and Chad Nippard and Glenn, Trevor and Anthony O’Connell; sisters-in-law, Gerry Hamilton, Ann (Lewis) Bartlett, Freda (Howard) Ingram, Annette Courtney (Richard); and brothers-in-law, Les (Marion) Strickland, Levi (Margaret) Strickland and Aub (Harriett) Strickland; and also many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jessie Elizabeth (Strickland) Nippard, his grandson, Darren Nippard, sister, Janet Hart and brother, Harvey Nippard.

Visitation for Archibald will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service to be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery.
