Archibald ‘Red Archie’ MacMaster, 71, of New Victoria passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 8, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 21, 1940, in Inverness County, he was a son of the late Alexander and Veronica (Beaton) MacMaster.
Archie was a member of the Parish Church of St. Leonard, New Waterford. He was a retired coal miner and member of the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford. Archie was an avid pool player and a big sports fan. He loved fishing and hunting.
Archie had an awesome sense of humour and was one who loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. You could hear him laugh from across the room and could not help but laugh when in his presence. He loved being outdoors and working in his garden during the summer.
Archie is survived by his wife and best friend of 49 years, Lillian (Kearney) MacMaster; sons, Robert (Michelle) MacMaster, New Waterford, Sandy (Darla) MacMaster, Windsor, Ont., Kevin (Lynn) MacMaster, Sydney; daughter, Lorraine MacMaster, at home; brothers, Greg (Sharon) MacMaster, New Victoria, Duncan MacMaster, Hamilton, Ont., Hughie (Janice) MacMaster, Maine; twin sister, Lorraine (Billy) Caffery, Boston, Mass.; sisters-in-law, Theresa MacMaster, Donna MacMaster, Donna (Kevin) Forward, Loretta McAulay, all of New Waterford, Judy MacNeil, Trenton, Ont.; daughter-in-law, Corry Gillis; special nephew Bernie MacMaster; close friend Wallace Gillis; grandchildren, Ashley and Robert MacMaster, Greggory Grace, Heather, Zachary, Stephanie MacMaster, Kendall MacMaster, Aidan MacMaster, Jordon MacPherson; many nieces, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Besides his parents, Archie was predeceased by his son Gerald ‘Hornet’ MacMaster, brothers, Lauchie, John Angus and Bernard MacMaster, sister, Christina Currie; nephew, Darrell MacMaster.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 11 at 2 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, New Victoria, with a luncheon to follow at the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
