With heavy and saddened hearts, the family of Myrna Ann MacKenzie, RN announce that she has received her wings and was met at the Pearly Gates by her parents, Joseph and Anna(MacLean) MacDonald on April 6, 2012.
She passed at Glace Bay Hospital after a short battle with cancer. She was born on Feb. 9, 1944.
Myrna was formerly of Dominon and then moved to Glace Bay, during her illness and before being hospitalized, she moved back to her family home and was looked after by her best friend and sister-in-law, Norma.
Myrna was a graduate of St. Joseph’s school of nursing in 1965. She was also a volunteer nursery school teacher at Town House in Glace Bay. She loved to play darts and the casino. She also loved to spend time with her family.
Myrna is survived by daughter, Claressa ‘Ressa’ MacKinnon, Dominion; sons, Hugh (Sherry) in New Waterford, Keith (Diane) and Matthew (Terri) from Glace Bay. Also survived by grandchildren, Amanda, Crystal, Courtney, Tiffany, Kaylee and Sarah. Also survived by great-grandchildren, Logan, Spencer and Brooklyn. She is survived by brothers, Joseph (Irene) in Nepean, Sheldon (Norma), Dominon and sister, Arlene Fancey (Gary), New Waterford.
She was predeceased by her parents and sister, Bertha Bailey.
Cremation has taken place and no visitation. The service will be at Immaculate Conception Parish at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12.
Family will be available at the back of the church after 9:30 a.m. for condolences. Burial will be the same day at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, family would like that a donation be made in Myrna’s name to Palliative care or the Canadian Cancer Society.
