Peter John Blake
Passed on: April 5th, 2012
(September 24, 1924 – April 5, 2012). It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Blake announce his passing at the age of 87 years at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, with Bernice, his loving wife of 55 years, and his family by his side. Predeceased by his parents, Noah and Mary (Hall) Blake, his sister Rita Noseworthy, and brothers-in-law Warren Noseworthy, Bill Hayden, John Hickey and Ronald O’Brien. He was much loved by his wife R. Bernice (Greene), and adored by his children Robert (Beverley), Anne Marie “Nancy” (Christopher Fitzgerald), Maureen (Aidan) Kenny, Catherine, and John (Joanne). Poppy also leaves his grandchildren Joseph Taylor, Erin and Allison Kenny, and Lauren and Evan Blake. Peter is also survived by his sisters Margaret Hickey and Theresa Hayden, sisters-in-law Margaret O’Brien and Nancy Karlik, special brother-in-law and friend Louis “Tex” Karlik, and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. He will also be missed by his cat Minou. An avid hunter and fisherman, and aspiring accordion player, Peter lived life to the fullest. The woods and waters of the province mourn his passing. He was gifted with ingenuity and a great sense of humour. He was a man of integrity, considerable work ethic, and a devoted husband and father, a wonderful role model and true inspiration to his family and all who knew him. A special thank you to Dr. Paul Skirving for his superb care and compassion, to the Heart Failure team at the Health Sciences Centre, and to Dianna Pelley and the Community Health team. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road, St. John’s on Friday from 10 am - 9 pm and Saturday 10 am-12:30 pm. Funeral service will be held from Caul’s Chapel on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 1 pm. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be held from St. Theresa’s Church, Mundy Pond Road, on Monday, April 9, 2012 at 9:30 am. He did not go gentle into that good night. He fought to stay with his family with a will and determination that exemplified how he lived his life. He will be forever loved and missed by his family.
