Passed in: Tompkins, Saskatchewan, Canada
Passed on: April 6th, 2012

CAMERON - Cameron, Douglas A., age 76 years of Tompkins, Sask. passed away at home on April 6, 2012. Doug is survived by Doreen, his wife of 51 years, daughter Dixi (Rod) Anderson, grandsons Tyler and Brendan Anderson of Calgary, brother Marvin of Cabri, mother-in-law Shirley Iona Blanchard, sisters-in-law Delores Cameron and Helen Cameron and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Duncan and Mary Cameron, brothers Archie, Walter, Robert and Richard, sister Ester Tyzuk, sisters-in-law Iris and Carolyn and father-in-law Stan Blanchard. Dad loved farming, ranching and living on the farm. Prior to starting his own farm and ranch operation, dad worked at various jobs but the ones he had the most stories about were working at Coulter's Ranch in Piapot and as a Cat operator building roads for the R.M. of Gull Lake. Horses were a big part of dad's life which shows in the many trophies and awards from the chuck wagon circuit and the many wagon trains he and Mom participated in and helped organize. Dad never wanted to move in from the farm and kept the home quarter to retire on so he could keep a couple of horses and have a shop to work in. He was a proud grandpa who loved showing his grandson's the country life and important skills like shooting gophers and how to fix almost anything in the shop. Dad also enjoyed many community activities and in past years he was a proud member of the Tompkins Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, Shriners, Tompkins Lighthorse, Mayor of Tompkins, Councilor for the R.M. of Gull Lake and President of the Southwest Chuckwagon and Chariot Association. A memorial lunch will be held Sunday, April 15, 2012, at the Tompkins Community Centre at 2:00 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Saskatchewan Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.
