Harding, Helen Anna — 87, of St. Croix, Hants County, passed away on Thursday, April 5th, 2012 with her daughters by her side in the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth. Born January 28th, 1925, in Ste. Croix, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Marie (DeMont) Whiting. Helen was a Grace Maternity Hospital Graduate, where she nursed for many years. She was employed by Canada Post, Sears and operated the family grocery store in Jeddore, Nova Scotia. Helen also was an Avon Representative for over 40 years. She was a member of Crime Stoppers, the Citizen’s on Patrol Program, Ste. Croix UCW and TOPS. Her love of music started at an early age and continued on for the rest of her life. Jamming with family and friends was her favourite pass time. She was a much-loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, and will be greatly missed. Survived by daughters, Carole (Paul) Shaw, St. Croix, Wanda Baker (Tom Deazley), Porter’s Lake; “favourite” granddaughter, Renee Karsten; grandsons, Christopher Baker, Tyler Shaw, Brett Shaw and Mark Shaw; four great grandchildren; brother, Jack Whiting; sister, Pauline (John) MacMillan; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband, Lloyd Allison Harding (1986); son, Sheldon in infancy; brothers, George Peter in infancy, Stuart (Mary Lowe) Whiting and Robert “Bob” Whiting; sister, Marguerite (Earl) Allen and sister-in-law Ruth Whiting; beloved friend and companion, Stan O`dell. Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10th, 2012 in the Ste. Croix United Church, St. Croix, where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 11th, 2012. Rev. Wendy Kean officiated. Burial was in the Ste. Croix Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donation in memory of Helen may be made to the Windsor Elms Chaplaincy Fund, St. Croix United Church or charity of choice. Helen’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Windsor Elms Village for their love and support, also to Dr. Mark Kazimirski for the care he provided to Helen over the years.
Helen would want everyone to have “fun in the sun” in her memory.
