It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Charlotte Jurcina on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at her residence on King Street, New Waterford, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lizzie Mae (Desveaux) Aucoin of Cheticamp.
Charlotte was a devout and active member of Mt. Carmel Church, now St. Leonard’s. She was the organist and choir director for Sunday mass as well as the organist for funerals. Charlotte was the treasurer of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL).
She was a former longtime employee of the Bank of Nova Scotia in New Waterford and Halifax and also was a member of the New Waterford Rink Committee.
Charlotte loved to read, listen to music, socialize and go for Sunday drives with her husband, Martin.
She will be sadly missed by her friends who met regularly at Tim Hortons and by her friends in the Ramoli Club. But mostly, Charlotte will be remembered for her compassionate and caring nature.
She is survived by her husband, Martin Jurcina; sisters, Rose MacKinnon (Dannie), Madeline Hiseler (Gordon Lindsay); brothers, Patrick, Russell (Lorraine), David (Susan); brothers and sisters-in-law; aunt, Mary Ann, New Waterford; relatives in Cheticamp and Reserve Mines; nieces, nephews and her special niece, Shauna and two special nephews, Donald and Darnell, whom she loved dearly.
Special thanks to her longtime friends, Louise Aucoin, Diddie Meery, and also to Doctors Tobin, D’Intino, palliative care staff, especially Beth Latham, VON, New Waterford Home Care and to Charlotte’s many friends for their visits and prayers.
Besides her parents, Charlotte was predeceased by two sisters.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Ray Huntley, is Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard’s Church followed by interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
All are invited to St. Leonard’s Hall on Convent Street for a reception.
As an expression of sympathy for Charlotte, memorial donations in her memory may be made to St. Leonard’s Church or palliative care.

Members of the CWL will gather at the funeral home on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. for their prayer service.
