September 15, 1958 - April 14, 2012. Passed away suddenly at Kearl Lake Site, Fort McMurray, Alberta, a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend, Bernie Colbert, St. John’s, formerly of St. Michael’s, Southern Shore. Predeceased by his father Thomas; his mother and father-in-law Catherine and Joseph Barry. He leaves behind the love of his life and soul mate, Tish. His son and best buddy, whom he was so proud of, Grant (Melissa). Also leaving to cherish his memories are his beloved mother Nellie; two brothers: Gerard and Andrew (Novalee); four sisters: Bernice Doyle (Stephen), Ruth Colbert-Williams (Pat), Linda and Geraldine; sister-in-law Denise Peckford (Bruce). His nieces and nephews, who he loved and enjoyed so much, Charlene Power (Regan), Beverly Doyle, Bradley Doyle (Katherine), Wayne Colbert, Kayla Colbert (Matt), Kerri Colbert, Ashley Colbert-Campbell (Greg Campbell), Brandon and Kyle Taylor, Kalista and Declan Colbert and Mark Peckford (Viki). Also, his great-nephews Kelton and Rowan Power, Liam Campbell and Justice Taylor. Bernie also leaves many other relatives and a wide circle of friends. Bernie loved the outdoors; he was a true lover of nature and the sport it provided. But his greatest love of all was his family, they were his world. Bernie had a wonderful sense of humor and left an impression on everyone who met him. The world will not be the same without him. The family wishes to say thank you to his wonderful co-workers/friends at the Kearl Lake Site who were with him when he needed them the most. He made many friendships in all the sites he worked over the years and he cherished each and everyone. Resting at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22 from 2 - 9 p.m. with Mass of Christian Burial being held at St. Michael’s Church, St. Michael’s on Monday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. Interment at a later date. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made in Bernie’s memory to Burnt Cove/St. Michael’s/Bauline Community Center Restoration Fund.
