GILMORE, JEROME FLETCHER - The death of Jerome Fletcher Gilmore, 88, beloved husband of Zella (Dykeman) Gilmore of Grand Manan, occurred peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, April 18, 2012. He was born on December 9, 1923 at North Head, Grand Manan as the eldest son of the late Claude and Belva (Daggett) Gilmore. A lifetime resident of Grand Manan, Jerome was a Fisheries Officer with the Department of Fisheries for 31 years. He was a member of the North Head Baptist Church, a veteran of the Second World War, and a member of the Grand Manan Legion Branch #44. After retirement, Jerome found great fulfillment in visitation with those who were sick and shut-ins. Jerome is survived by his wife of 65 years, Zella; daughter, Greta Gilmore of Hampton, NB; son Glenn (Margaret) Gilmore of Grand Manan; grandson Gregory (Kendra) Gilmore of Sussex, NB; granddaughter, Gillian Gilmore of Grand Manan; sister Hazel Gilmore of Grand Manan; and brother Wilbur (Alice) of Fredericton; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will take place at the North Baptist Church on Saturday, April 21st, from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held from the church on Sunday at 1:30 PM with Rev. Edward Shaw officiating, interment to follow in the family plot Maple Grove Cemetery, Castalia, NB. A reception will follow in the church vestry, everyone welcome.
