It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father. Don passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, April 22, 2012. Dad was born September 18, 1929 to Cyril and Margaret Courtney in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was one of nine children and is survived by his adored twin Barbara Toone (Victoria B.C.) and dear brothers John and Cyril (Halifax). Don graduated St. Mary’s University and Nova Scotia Tech and worked most of his life for Canada Cement Lafarge. He and his cherished wife, Ethel (Bird), moved many times during their 56 years of marriage and made many precious and treasured friends along the way. Don was predeceased by son Chuck and several of his siblings. He will be
greatly missed by Ethel, by his children, and their spouses Lorinda (Michael Brooks), Christine (Tony Wing), Joanne (Wayne Sexton), Don Jr. (Brenda), David (Carolyn) as well as their 10 grandchildren and spouses; DJ (Amber) and Bradley Brooks, Jennifer (Sean Culligan), Travis (Heather), Dustin (Lindsay) Wing, Adam, Cameron, Mary Margaret Courtney, Ryan and Benjamin Courtney and 5 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Dods & McNair Funeral Home & Chapel, 21 First St., Orangeville (519-941-1392) on Friday, April 27th, 2012 from
7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 42 Dawson Rd., Orangeville on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.
Donations in lieu of flowers to World Vision or Weizmann Institute would be appreciated.
