Clarence Cormier

CORMIER, CLARENCE - 1930 - 2012 - Clarence Cormier, 81, of Dieppe, passed away on Thursday, April 26th, 2012 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Center, Moncton, NB. Born in St-Antoine, NB, he was the son of the late Willie and the late Beatrice (née: Robichaud) Cormier. Mr. Cormier was a former Councillor and Mayor of the City of Dieppe; M.L.A. and the first Acadian named Minister of Education for the Province of New Brunswick. He was director of Addiction Services for the department of public health. He was involved in many organizations, Le Club Optimiste, Dieppe Boys and Girls Club, Canadian Cancer Society, Knights of Columbus (council #6796 Mgr. Donat Chiasson), Lion’s Club; Rotary and the Club d’Age d’Or de Dieppe, to name a few. Mr. Cormier was a former president of the Board of Directors of the Dieppe Library, the Greater Moncton United Way and “l’Association des Anciens et Anciennes de l’Université de Moncton”. He was also a member of the New Brunswick Economic Council, and sat on the Board of Directors of “l’Institut de Memramcook” and the Y.M.C.A. Mr. Cormier was a recipient of Assomption Vie - Louis-J.-Robichaud award and very involved in Transcendental Meditation. He is survived by his wife, Bernette (née: Cormier); two daughters: Monette Cormier (Malcolm Davis) of Barachois and Lisette Fuller (Roland LeBlanc) of Memramcook; two sons: Charles (France Robitaille) of Mont-Tremblant, QC and Pierre (Keleigh) of Edmonton, AB; four sisters: Leona (Ronald) Broderick of Dartmouth, NS, Jeannine Cormier of Dieppe, Claudette (Rosaire) Couturier of Montreal, QC and Fernande Cormier of Dieppe; one brother, Conrad (Marie) of Dieppe; six grandchildren: Janelle, Justin, Alexis, Philip, Danielle and Claire as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters: Jeannita, Hermance and Annette and also by three brothers: Alonzo, Bernard and Raoul.
Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB (857-1901) on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated from Sainte-Therese Roman Catholic Church, Dieppe, NB, on Thursday, May 3rd, 2012 at 11 am.
Interment in Notre-Dame du Calvaire Cemetery, Dieppe, NB. Donations to the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. www.chartersville.com
