Barry Kelly

On Friday April 27th Barry Kelly left this world a better place than he found it.
Born in Halifax, August 12, 1959, Barry was the proud son of the late Ronald and Lucetta (Jennings) Kelly and brother of Brian (Rosemary) and their children Stephanie and Thomas.
He graduated from Springhill High School in 1978, Mount Allison in 82/83 and Dalhousie University in 1984. That same year he married his best friend Rhonda (Hounsel). Together they formed an unbeatable team. Barry began his career as an educator in Shelburne, moving then to Springhill and Amherst, before accepting the Vice Principal position at the Springhill Jr/Sr High, then Principal position of R.B. Dickey and finally proudly serving as the very first Principal of the Spring Street Academy since it opened in 2005.
Barry loved racing, golf, and was passionate about home restoration. Entirely self taught, he had an incredible eye for details and excelled at everything he put his talented hands to. But he believed his greatest accomplishment was his son Nathan whom he adored. Together they nurtured one another's adventurous spirit on the ice, the golf course and the race track. For Barry, family came first and his wife and son was his reason for being.
He was highly respected by his staff, and loved by his students and his impact on their lives will be immeasureable.
Students and friends joined the family on Sunday from 6 - 9 p.m. in Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst as they celebrated an Irish life well lived.
A Service of Celebration will be held for "Mr. Kelly" at 4 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Amherst.(After school of course)
If you wish to make a memorial donation in Barry's memory, the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre Foundation or the Cumberland VON would be greatly appreciated.
