A. Kathleen "Kay" Patterson

PATTERSON, A. KATHLEEN "KAY" - Kay passed away April 30, 2012 at the Edmonton General Hospital after a blessedly brief battle with cancer. Kay was born September 4th, 1932 in Wallaceburg, Ontario to Wilfred and Ferol MacGregor. After graduating from Brescia College (University of Western Ontario) in 1954, Kay enjoyed a career in Toronto with Trans-Canada Airlines, first as a stewardess and later as a ticket agent. She married Norman Patterson in 1959 and moved to New Brunswick where they raised their family. Norman’s career moved the family to Edmonton, Alberta in 1976. Later in life Kay enjoyed a satisfying and successful career as a realtor. Kay was devoted to her family and they to her. She was an avid gardener, and loved to travel. Her positive attitude helped her overcome all of life’s hurdles. Her strength of character and belief in the promise of a new day made her an inspiration to all who loved her. She is survived by her two sons, MacGregor Patterson (Karen Trethewey) of Richmond Hill, Ontario; Andrew Patterson (Brenda)of Edmonton, Alberta; and her daughter Kelly Patterson (Peter Buckley) of Rothesay, New Brunswick. Grandma will be greatly missed by Quinn Patterson, Connor and Amanda Patterson and Stuart and Katie Buckley. Kay also leaves her sisters Maxine MacGregor of Whitby, Ontario, Norine Dietrich (Martin) of Portland Oregon and brother Roland MacGregor of Waterloo, Ontario. She was predeceased by Norman Patterson, her brother Allen MacGregor, and sisters Jean McMartin and Elaine Sharpless.
At Kay’s request, there will be no funeral. Her family will gather in Ontario at a later date to celebrate Kay and all she meant to us. We wish to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Walter and the staff of 9Y at the Edmonton General Hospital.
