Barbara Robinson-Watson

ROBINSON-WATSON, BARBARA, M.D.C.M. FRCP, BSc. (Hon) - Barbara Robinson-Watson died in her sleep at home on April 29, 2012. She was born in Marysville (Fredericton), N.B., May 6, 1921, the daughter of Jennie (Cochrane) and Frank Robinson. Educated at the Alexander Gibson Memorial School (she was a member of the First grade when that school opened in September, 1927), Fredericton High School and University of New Brunswick. She entered Dalhousie University on a Kellogg Foundation Scholarship graduating with MDCM degree, the only woman in her class in 1947. After residencies at the Saint John General Hospital, the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital and the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children, she practiced Paediatrics in association with the Fredericton Medical Clinic until her retirement in 1988. During the 1980’s and early 90’s, as President and long time member of the Board of the N.B. Lung Association, she, along with the executive director, Margaret Murdock, conducted smoking cessation programs, advocated for legislation to eliminate smoking from health facilities, public transportation and public buildings. During these years, the NBLA also conducted education programs for children with asthma and established the summer camp for children with asthma at Camp Medley. Predeceased by her parents, brother Hilton (Aileen Banks), her husband Robert and son Rob Watson. She is survived by son John (Judy), daughter Dr. Mary Lynn, grandsons Chris (Amanda), Sean (Jen) and two great-grandchildren Grace and Jack, also a nephew Al Robinson (Cecile) and his family in the U.S.A. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Becky Watson of Fredericton, two Watson nephews and two Watson nieces and their families in Ontario. She was a member of several medical societies, of St. Paul’s United Church in Fredericton and more recently of the U.C.W. of St. Andrew’s Church, Halifax.
