It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of William Murray Cantwell, April 30, 2012, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Bras d’Or, he was the son of the late Frank and Theresa (McGrath) Cantwell.
Murray worked for eight years at the Toronto Mine in Bras d’Or. Following that, he owned a dairy farm, which he operated for 30 years, before retiring in 1973.
He will be sadly missed by Frances, his wife of 57 years; sons, Glenn (Nancy), Boularderie, Kirk (Judy), Bras d’Or, Vaughn (Marie), Ingonish, and Craig (in infancy); daughters, Vicky (Craig) Martin, Cole Harbour, Lynn (Dave) Gillan, Burton, N.B., Sherry (David) Zipf, Des Moines, Iowa, and Kelly (Darrin Searancke), Halifax; 14 grandsons, two granddaughters and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Edgar (Margaret), Bras d’Or; sisters, Greta Yelovich, Patronella Harper, Shirley (Charles) King, Ontario, Eileen MacPherson, Geraldine (Peter) Kleronomos, Halifax, and Phyllis (Dave) King, Sydney Mines; and sisters-in-law, Louise and Theresa.
He was predeceased by brothers, Joseph (in infancy), Earl, Russell, Percy, Warren, Keith and Don, sisters, Marguerite (in infancy), Ida and Francis, brothers-in-law, Leonard King, Lloyd Harper, Peter Yelovich and Harry MacPherson and sisters-in-law, Florence and Yvonne.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, on Thursday at 10.30 a.m. with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph parish cemetery, with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
