Verna Joyce Spidle - 84, formerly of Gaspereau, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 in Blomidon Court - Shannex, Greenwich. Born in Forest Hill, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Orland and Maggie (Fenton) Croft. She had been employed as a PCW at the Wolfville Nursing Home, from where she retired. She was a great lover of cats and country music and could often be heard whistling one of her favourite tunes, especially while working. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, word puzzles, hymn sings and variety shows. She is survived by two sons, Ford, Black River Lake and Perry (Faye), Forest Hill; four daughters, Margie (Kenny) Coldwell, Melanson; Sharon Walsh, Melanson; Dawn Coldwell, Gaspereau; Wendy Spidle, Gaspereau; step-son, Hughie (Joyce) Spidle, Cambridge; three step-daughters, Doreen (Ernie) Staveley, Ontario; Betty (John) Hiltz, New Brunswick; Jean (Eddy) Beeker, British Columbia; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred “Bill”; two step-daughters, Kay and Marjorie; a step-son, Russell; three sisters, Clarice, Elizabeth and Edith; four brothers, Harold, John, Heston and Lloyd. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2012 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012 in Gaspereau Cemetery, Kings County, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Blomidon Court for their care, kindness and compassion. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Kings County SPCA.
