MacKENZIE, Leila Irene – 65, Truro, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born April 1, 1947, in Malagash Station, Cumberland County, she was a daughter of the late John and Jennie (Ralph) MacNeil. Leila worked at Stanfield’s for 26 years until her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her girls and grandchildren and will be forever remembered as a kind, caring and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Leila is survived by her daughters, Donna Love, Truro; Brenda (Larry) Smith, Bible Hill; Barbara Matthews, Hamilton, Ontario; Jackie Smith, Bible Hill; Sandra (John) Hatfield, Truro; Cherie (Tim) Atkinson, Harmony; grandchildren, Garrett Love, Spencer Love, Kenzie Smith, Cody Smith, Michael Smith, Brandon Smith, Ryan Wilson, Jocelyn Hatfield, Chelsey Atkinson, Brittany Matthews, Dylan Matthews; siblings, Hazel (Joe) Landry, Betty Corbett, Kenny (Phelna); several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Charles Donald MacKenzie; sister, Jean; brother, Tom. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Henderson, Dawn, Dr. Smith, Val, Lisa, VON, 4th Floor nurses at Colchester Regional Hospital and QEII Cancer Care Team. Honouring Leila’s wishes, a private family graveside service will be held in Blackmore Memorial Cemetery, Reverend David Lutes officiating. If so desired, donations in Leila’s memory to Palliative Care Unit or Canadian Cancer Society are welcomed.
