MESSENGER, Margaret Emma, 89, Clark’s Harbour, Shelburne Co., passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Newellton, Cape Sable Island, on September 20, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Austin and Sarah (Atkinson) Messenger. She started her professional career as a permissive teacher and retired in 1978 with her Masters’ degree. Margaret taught at Newellton, Kings Edgehill, Shelburne, Lahave and completed her teaching career at Yarmouth High School. After retiring, she wrote 13 books about the early days on Cape Sable Island. Margaret was a genealogist and local historian. She belonged to The Archelaus Smith Historical Society and the Seabreeze Rebekah Lodge. Margaret was predeceased by sister, Ethel (Newell) Messenger, brothers, Melbourne, Walton and Robert Messenger. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Margaret was known for her wisdom. She was greatly loved and will be missed by many.
