Fowler, Ruby Joyce (Crooks) (Sollows) It is with sadness that the family of Ruby Joyce Fowler (Crooks) (Sollows) announce her passing the evening of 14 May, 2012 at the QEII Infirmary, with family at her side. Born in Halifax, Ruby’s early years were spent in the Toronto and Halifax areas. She attended Dalhousie University and the NS College of Art. She had a natural talent in the visual arts world and art flowed through her entire life: in her medical art work, her landscapes and seascapes, her floral paintings and in particular her extensive skills as a portrait artist. Ruby loved life in all of its magnificent colours and hues and she captured the world around her, wherever she was, in her wonderful paintings. For a number of years Ruby lived and painted in Florida where she also dabbled in real estate. She returned to Nova Scotia in her later years, settled in Wolfville and taught art. In 2002, she met Charles and enthusiastically moved back to Halifax. For the past ten years she enjoyed life in the area and travels with Charles to China, the Caribbean, Scandinavia, Florida, Ohio, Arizona and New York. Ruby had an international world class smile and a natural beauty, which would light up any room she was in. She had many friends and was much admired by the many art students she taught over the years. Ruby was predeceased by her parents John Herman and Florence Emma Crooks, Halifax; her sister Ruth Crooks, Halifax; brother John Crooks, Halifax; her brother-in-law Arthur Speed, Halifax; and nephew Gregory Speed, Halifax. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles A. E. Fowler, Halifax; her daughter Patricia Sollows (Jamie Baxter), Tiverton, NS; grandson Shaun Gough (Nicolina,), New York, NY; sister Margaret Speed; niece Roslyn Speed, Halifax; step-son Graham Fowler (Catherine), Saskatoon, SN; step-daughter Beverly Charlton (Patrick), Tantallon, NS; and step-grandchildren, Charles and Stephanie Fowler, Saskatoon, SN; and many other members of her extended family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS. There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Snow’s Chapel on Tuesday 22nd May, 2012 at 11:00 am. There will be a reception following the service. Interment will be at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank, 2415 Maynard Street, Halifax, NS, B3K 3V2; the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation, 5850 College Street, Halifax, NS, B3H 9Z9; or to a charity of choice. The family wish to express their sincere appreciation for the wonderful care and consideration of the staff of 8.2 at the Halifax Infirmary.
