Gwen Anscomb, special Mother and Grandmother (Nan/ Nana-san), passed away in Merritt BC on May 8th. Gerry Anscomb, Gwen’s husband of 50 years predeceased her in 1999. Gwen will be missed by her sons John (Reiko) Anscomb-Iino and Gray (Carmin) Anscomb and daughter Fern (Ken) Davey, grandchildren Sean and Drew (Jaymie) Davey, Tokihiro and Erina Mari Anscomb-Iino, Nicholas and Carson Anscomb and great granddaughter Alexandra Davey.

Born and raised in Sydney Australia, Gwen moved to Canada to marry Gerry (1946). As an Army wife, Gwen accompanied Gerry to cities in Ontario, Quebec and Alabama. After blindness forced Gerry to retire, they moved to Vancouver, where Gwen worked for Simon Fraser University, BC Rail and Canada Immigration. After Gwen retired, they relocated to Victoria and spent several happy years in Saanich (Foxborough) where Gwen particularly enjoyed her time with her “Stitch and Bitch” circle of friends. Our Mother loved entertaining, clothes, babies, animals, gardening and the arts.

For the past few years, Gwen has been lovingly cared for by the thoughtful staff at Gillis House in Merritt, and by her son Gray and his wife Carmin. Gwen lives on in the hearts and memories of those who knew her. If you wish, donations in her memory can be sent to the Salvation Army, Alzheimer’s Society or SPCA. No commemorative ceremony at this time.
