SONDRA RAE ERICKSON

SONDRA RAE ERICKSON

Born: February 4th, 1939

Passed in: Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada
Passed on: May 15th, 2012

It is with great sadness that our family wishes to announce the passing of Sondra Rae Erickson. Sondra spent her last two weeks in the home of her daughter and son-in-law having her granddaughter Amy provide round the clock care with help from other family members and friends. Amy was happy to help her Gramma live and die with dignity and peace.

Until her move Sondra lived independently and took pride in never being a burden on her family. She enjoyed cooking and baking, visiting her family, friends and neighbours, gardening and reading and spending time with her little dog, Schatze (her sweetheart).

Sondra was born in Manitoba and moved with her parents at the age of 15 to Germany where she lived for eight years. While there she met and married William McLaughlin and had her daughter Kimberly. They moved to Alberta in 1962 and Gordon was born in Edmonton in 1963. The family moved to North Vancouver in 1963 and then to Surrey in 1972.

Sondra and Bill remained friends but divorced in 1974. Sondra eventually met David Erickson and his two sons Mitchell and Trevor and were married in 1981. They lived for many years on Vancouver Island, took on a tire business in Alberta and in 1994 moved to Kamloops where Sondra worked at Costco. She developed many close friendships with her Costco family. Her wonderful friends helped make Sondra's last months enjoyable with their phone calls and visits.

Sondra leaves behind her children, Kimberly Michaelsen (Larry), Gordon McLaughlin (Michele); Mitchell Erickson (Marty), Trevor Erickson (Glenda) and her grandchildren; Amy Rae (Jesse), Sophie, Kelly, Drew and Sydney, her husband David Erickson, Aunt Alma Foreman and cousin Doug (Chris).

Special thanks to Dr. Sommerville, Dr. Proctor and Janice who went above and beyond for our entire family through this difficult time.

There will be no service by request. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
