HALIFAX – On May 26th, on what would have been her 94th birthday, Margaret McCarthy will be laid to rest.
Margaret was the daughter of the late James and Gertrude Leahy of Trenton and is survived by four of her sisters including Dorothy Leahy and Patricia Stewart who reside in Nova Scotia.
Margaret was a decorated nurse in the Royal Canadian Army, posted in Europe. Following the war, she signed on with the Occupation Army to care for Canadian POW’s who were convalescing in Germany. Thereafter, she married, settled in Montreal and raised her five children. Margaret was an avid world traveler, visiting over 30 countries, until 1997 when she returned to Nova Scotia and lived in Cornwallis Park.
She will be remembered with love and affection by her family and friends. The private service will take place at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery. Attending will be her four children, several of her grandchildren as well as her sisters, nieces and nephews. She will rest in peace beside her beloved son David.
