Elsie Isabel Whalen, 91, of Halifax, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 22, 2012, in Northwood Manor Nursing Home.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Abbott and Elizabeth (Parks) Keagan.
Elsie was a stay-at-home mom who was dedicated to her family. She will be fondly remembered for her kindness and warmth by her many family and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved knitting sweaters, scarves and mittens for her grandchildren.
She is survived by five daughters, Anne (John Matzelle), Portland, Ore., Sharon (Robert LaPierre), Halifax, Joan (John Donovan), Saint John, Judy (Dale Eastman), Porters Lake, and Mary (Mike Lloy), Timberlea; three sons, George (Elaine), Halifax, Harry (Carolyn), Saint John, and Gordon (Joan), Moncton; three sisters, Jean (Mrs. Nathan Keeping), Sydney, Abbie (Mrs. Ron Hawco), North Sydney, Catherine (Mrs. Lawrence Doucette), Dartmouth; one brother, Emmanuel, North Sydney.
Besides her parents, Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Henry Malcolm Whalen, sister, Nan (Mrs. Joseph Devoe), Sydney, brothers, William, Abbie, Michael, Gordon, Lloyd, Earl, Kenny and Reginald.
Elsie had requested that her remains be cremated. Due to the majority of her children being out of the country, a private memorial service will be held at a later date. The immediate family would like to thank Ronnie Corbett for the assistance and friendship he has shown our parents throughout their elder years.
