LYNCH, ROBERT P. - It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Robert P. Lynch on May 24, 2012 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Fredericton on May 24, 1925; he was the son of the late Frederick and Ina Lynch. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce (Blizzard); his son Patrick (Pam); daughters, Cathy Lynch and Jayne Chase (Karl, deceased); grand-children Natalie and Robert; all of Fredericton. Survived by sisters Marjorie “Peg” Young of Ottawa; Ann Estey, Claire (Bill) Batt, and Mary Lynch of Fredericton; and many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by his parents and brothers Budd, Tom, Paul and Ron. Rob was a graduate of UNB in Civil Engineering and had a long career with the Provincial Government in the Departments of Transportation, Supply and Services and NB Housing. He was a Life Member, and past member of both the Council and the Board of Examiners for the Association of Professional Engineers of New Brunswick. He also held several positions with the Appraisal Institute of Canada, including lecturing at U.N.B. and U de M., and was Chairman of the National Building Code Advisory Committee for Canada. Over many years, Rob was involved in several community and charitable activities including, Chair of the United Way Campaign and Chair of the Seniors’ Advisory Committee. He was a member of Christ Church (Parish) Church, the Fredericton South Rotary Club, and the Y.M.C.A., serving on the board. Rob was a hard worker and he overcame many challenges. Always optimistic and outgoing, he enthusiastically embraced all that life had to offer. In his younger years he enjoyed a variety of sports. An active, positive and happy person who loved being outdoors, he kept busy maintaining and improving the grounds around his home and family cottage. But what mattered most to him, and what truly endures, is his deep love of family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Flower, attending physicians and health-care professionals in Fredericton and Saint John for their compassionate care.
A visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home in Fredericton on Sunday, May 27 from 3 pm to 7 pm. A private grave-side service will be held at a later date, with Rev. Anthony Kwaw and Rev. Joyce Perry officiating. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes to the Chalmers Hospital Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
