With heavy hearts, we the family of the late Donald Duncan Verge, age 76, Camro Place, Cambridge, Kings County, formerly of New Glasgow, NS, announce his passing in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS on Sunday, May 27th, 2012. Born in Brantford, Ontario, he was the son of the late John and June Verge. Dad spent five years in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a man who had the ability to turn his hand to whatever task that was set before him. As a “Handyman” this allowed him to work in various fields in his life time. Before retirement, Dad worked for 23 years as a Commissionaire at Scott Paper, Abercrombie, as the head of security. Upon moving to Cambridge, he was an active member of the community serving six years as a Director of the Cambridge Community Centre. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 53 years, Joan (LeFresne), one son, Jay (Myrna) of Cambridge, and one daughter, Debbie (Keith) Richardson, North Yorkshire, England. He is survived by three sisters, Lois, Bernice, Blanche and four brothers, Bob, Jim, Glen and Bruce. He was a special grandfather to six granddaughters, Allison (Evan) Collins, Denise and Tracey Verge, Amanda, Julie and Bonnie Richardson as well as three great grandchildren, Taylor Richardson, Analise and Owen Collins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Ruby and Violet, three brothers, Roy, Gordon and twin brother, Ron. Thank you to Doctors and staff of Valley Regional Hospital for all their care and kindness. A special thanks to Dr. Merryweather and staff of ICU. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, Mr. Charles O’Regan and Mr. Eric Lockhart officiating. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Following the burial, a reception for family and friends will be held in the Cambridge Community Centre. Memorial donations may be made to Valley Regional Hospital Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
