It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Charles Albert Roach, 76, of New Waterford, on June 7, 2012 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Victor and Mary Ann (Cormier) Roach.
Charles was a coal miner for 32 years until his retirement. He enjoyed watching his grandsons play hockey, taking pictures, sketching and spending time with his friends. He also loved telling pit stories to those who would lend an ear.
Surviving are wife, Irene (McDonald); daughter, Colleen (Francis) MacKinnon, River Ryan; sons, David (Marilyn), Whitecourt, Alta., Donald, Saskatoon, Sask., Kevin (Robin), Ottawa, Jamie (Charlotte), Whitecourt, Alta.; sister, Theresa (Joe) Cormier, Sydney, N.S.; brothers-in-law, Michael (Lorraine) McDonald, New Waterford, Greggie (Alex) McDonald, Halifax; sister-in-law, Bernice (Robert) Eveleigh, Kitchener; special niece, Rose Marie (Al) Phinney, Halifax; grandchildren, Jordon and Connor MacKinnon, River Ryan; Kelly, Lindsay and Janelle Roach; Mitchell, Breton and Jessica Roach, all of Whitecourt, Alta.; Mazzie and Sophie Roach, Ottawa; his special little dog, Kozmo.
Besides his parents, Charles was predeceased by sister, Rose Agnes, brothers, Louis and Freddie (Barbara), in-laws, Michael and Hattie McDonald.
There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's parish hall, Convent Street, New Waterford.
Donations in his memory may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
