Kathleen McKay
Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away at home, very unexpectedly, on Saturday, June 9, 2012. Kay was predeceased by her first husband Donald Muntean (1967), second husband Herbert (Herb) McRae (1993) and third husband George McKay (2009) and sons Kenneth Muntean (1991) and Dennis Muntean (1996). Kay is survived by sons Con Muntean (Margaret), Andy Muntean (Josie) and Don Muntean (Teresa) and sisters Mary, Armenia, Jean and Joan. Kay was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kay was also especially fond of her close friends here in Moose Jaw and in Bengough, Marylin, Brenda, Pat, and Lil and with just too many others to mention. Mom was born on August 20, 1935 in Peterborough Ontario, the second youngest of 8 children. Mom moved to Saskatchewan in December 1956, when she met Donald Muntean, they were married in the Flintoft Romanian Orthodox Church. Mom and Dad moved to the Muntean family farm near the Village of Lakenheath, where they worked and resided until Dad's unexpected and tragic passing on March 11, 1967. Suddenly a young widow, Mom then moved with her children from the farm into Limerick and later, in 1970, to Assiniboia - where she raised her five sons. Later in 1980, Mom and her youngest son moved to Moose Jaw. After her sons had moved away from home Mom met "the second love of her life" Herb and they were married in 1986. Mom then moved to Bengough, where she and Herb enjoyed 11 years of a deeply loving marriage - until his untimely passing in 1993. Mom then met George McKay and they married and after 15 years of happy companionship, George suddenly passed away in 2009. Mom then moved back to Moose Jaw in December 2009 - where she was building her new life with friends and family - until her untimely passing. Mom loved her family and friends immensely. While Mom wasn't a religious person, she was deeply spiritual, her faith and her love for her family carried her though a great deal of tragic pain and loss throughout her life. There is no doubt that Kay will be missed by so many - there is now a hollow space left within our lives - which can only be filled with good memories of her smile and laugh. Kay's Memorial Tea is to be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Parkview Funeral Chapel.
