Ruth Rebecca (Hobbs) MacDonald - 88, formerly of Kentville, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2012 in Gables Lodge, Amherst. Born in New Tusket, Digby County, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Flora (Mullen) Hobbs. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star as well as a member of the Glooscap Curling Club and the KenWo Golf and Country Club. She is survived by a daughter, Jeanette MacLaren, Mermaid, Prince Edward Island; two sons, Irvin (Katherine Lawrence), Moncton; Keith (Barbara), MacKenzie, British Columbia; seven grandchildren, Cathy, Stewart, Deverne, Tanya, Debbie, Heather and Scott; seven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest “Duke” MacDonald; a sister, Clara (Sabine) Dowd; a brother, George Sabean; a daughter-in-law, Donna (Comeau) MacDonald; a son-in-law, John MacLaren; a great grandchild. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2012 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Ray A. Francis officiating. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
