Dr. John Debow

DEBOW, DR. JOHN F. - John passed away in Louisville, Kentucky on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 with the support and love of family and friends. Born December 20, 1945 in Moncton, N.B., Canada to the late Everett and Geraldine DeBow. Attended elementary school in Riverview, N.B. and later graduated from Moncton High School, Class of 1963. Graduated from Mount Allison University with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), Class of 1967, and later from Dalhousie University with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Class of 1972. Following internship, he spent 3 years as a Medical Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces at CFB Borden, ON. At the completion of the 3-year commitment, he took the opportunity to return to Dalhousie University to do a 4-year residency in Otolaryngology, finishing in 1979. He was a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, FRCS(C), the American Academy of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. He had a successful 18-year career in ENT at Woodlawn Medical Centre in Dartmouth, N.S., after which he decided to move to the USA in 1997. He had another 15-year career in ENT in Leitchfield, Kentucky from where he retired in Dec. 2011 due to on-going health problems. He is survived by his son Christopher (daughter-in-law Patti Melanson), his daughter Allison (son-in-law Alex Keaveny), three grand daughters , Ella DeBow, Sophie and Erin Keaveny, stepgrandaughter Mackenzie Oram, the mother of his children, Janet (Walters) DeBow, all of Halifax and Dartmouth, brothers Richard (Elva) , Moncton, N.B.,Brian (Brenda), Fort Myers, Florida, nephew Mark DeBow, Moncton, nieces Tyne and Nealy DeBow, Fort Myers, and sister-in-law Judith Walters of Fredericton, N.B.
Cremation was chosen. Burial in Canada at a later date. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association, Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Lung Association, or the charity of one’s choice.
