Audrey Chapman

CHAPMAN, AUDREY - It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Audrey Helen Chapman, age 90, of Amherst. Audrey passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Mary (McLeod) Marney. Audrey studied voice at Mount Allison University and sang at many funerals, weddings and church services at First Baptist Church over the years. After moving back to Amherst, she worked for McLeod's Jewelery Store and Douglas Rogers Insurance. She was active in the Lady Tweedsmuir, the Amherst Figure Skating Club, Ladies Barbershop Singers. She was a member of the Literacy Council where she assisted adults in learning to read and write. She and her second husband Kenneth owned and operated Ken's Motel and Store in Bayfield, New Brunswick until her retirement. While in Bayfield she founded a very successful Junior Choir at the Bayfield United Church. She then returned to Amherst where she spent her retirement years painting, enjoying music, and spending time with family, friends and her special cat Molly. She will be dearly missed by her daughter Mary Elizabeth "Buffy" George (Gerald White), Fenwick, NS; grandchildren, Michael Appt, Toronto, Jennifer (James) Sachkiw, Banff, Susan (Geoff) Plewes, Calgary; great grandchildren, Evan, Oliver, Charlie, and Kieran; step-sons, Leigh (Helen) Chapman and Rev. Robert (Jean) Chapman, both of Dartmouth; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Ken Chapman, brother Dean; step-daughter Pauline Bryden.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Wednesday from 1 pm until the time of the funeral. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 2 pm from the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, Rev. Don Miller officiating. Following a time of tea and fellowship, burial will take place in the Amherst Cemetery.
