John Firmin Venedam
POMQUET – John Firmin Venedam, 84, Pomquet, passed away on June 24, 2012, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Pomquet, he was a son of the late Edward and Annie (DeYoung) Venedam.
John worked as a carpenter in construction, was a fisherman, and did small engine repair. There was nothing he couldn't fix and he loved doing it. John was happy in his garden, especially his strawberry field. He will be missed by the many people he came in contact with during his daily morning visit to town.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his son, Calvin (Margie), Pomquet; daughters: Jeanette (Jim) Power, Antigonish, Georgina (Bernie) DeCoste, Pomquet, Pauline (Brendan) Doyle, Pomquet, Marlene (Gord) Campbell, Grand Bay-Westfield, NB; grandchildren: Jonathan, Regeena (Jason), Caitlin (Blair), Jensyn, Nathan (Meagan), Lucas (Heidi), Curran, Lachlan, Rowan and Rachel; great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Avery.
He was predeceased by his wife, Regina; foster son, Terrance; granddaughter, Charlotte; brothers: Leo, George, Clarence, and Rudolph; sisters, Margaret, Mary, Marion and Leona.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. in the C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. in Ste. Croix Church, Pomquet, Rev. P.J. Baccardax presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery.
