It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Shelly Roberts, age 66, of Glace Bay. Shelly passed away at the Glace Bay Hospital on Monday, June 25, 2012.
Born in Glace Bay, Shelly was the son of the late Jack and Peggy (Perry) Roberts.
Shelly was a pipefitter by trade and worked with his father, Jack. He was very close to his father and learned a lot about the trade from him.
He had a great sense of humour. He loved to hunt and loved the outdoors.
Shelly had a great sense of community which was illustrated through his extensive volunteering. He was a longtime volunteer with the Cape Breton Regional Police, community office programs, many youth programs, safe grad, the Savoy Theatre and the Glace Bay Food Bank. Shelly also was a member of the Coal Town Choir.
Shelly had a very special place in his heart for animals. He was a gentle man, was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
Shelly will be sadly missed by his loving companion, Charlotte Marr; daughters, Natalie (Raymond Farmer), N.B., Shelley Lynn Roberts (Jason McCready), Sydney; brother, Eddie (Moira) Roberts, Antigonish; sister, Lynn (Ike) Batten, Glace Bay; one cherished granddaughter, Margaret MacKinnon, Sydney. Also surviving are aunts, Mimmie Bresson, Louise Purcell; nieces, Jaclyn MacLeod, Ebony Roberts; nephews, Ike Batten, Jr., Scott Roberts and Bretton Roberts.
In honouring Shelly’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Leo Boone officiating.
