NEW GLASGOW – Shirley MacLean, 77, New Glasgow, passed away suddenly Tuesday, June 26, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late James and Elizabeth “Liz” (Kiley) Callaghan.
Shirley was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. She was employed by Standard Clay as a bookkeeper and later operated C. MacLean’s Shell with her husband Charles. Shirley enjoyed reading and watching sports. She loved to follow her grandchildren in their different sports and school events. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Charles, daughter, Charlene (Harry) Knoester, New Glasgow; son, Dr. Gregor (Debbie) MacLean, New Glasgow; brothers, Bill (Shirley) Callaghan, New Glasgow; Jimmy (Ann) Callaghan, New Glasgow; grandchildren: Jonathan, Joel, Matthew and Marnie; several nieces; nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by brothers, Joe Kiley and Alphonce Callaghan; special cousin, Annette (Kiley) Gillingham.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church with Father Gary MacPherson presiding. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens, Sylvester.
