Neola Edith Guthrie

GUTHRIE, NEOLA EDITH - 1932-2012 - Mrs. Neola E. Guthrie of Grand Harbour, Grand Manan Island passed away at the Grand Manan Hospital on Sunday, July 1, 2012. She was born of the late Leonard and Essie (Guthrie) Leighton of Grand Manan. Neola worked in the smoked herring sheds boning herring, and also at the Connors Bros. Sardine factory in Seal Cove for much of her working life. She will be remembered most for raising her eight children and the love she gave to her family. Following the loss of her first husband William Small in 1973 Neola worked hard to raise her children on her own, and later met Ernie, and in him found the husband and best friend that would always be by her side. Memories of her knitting and her love of her Bible she kept near to her will always be remembered by those who knew her. She will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends but never forgotten in their hearts. She is survived by her husband, Mr. Ernest Guthrie of Grand Harbour; six daughters, Edith Williams (Harold) of St. Stephen, Trudy Griffin of Grand Manan, Ruth Small of Grand Manan, Dorothy Beal (Richard) of Grand Manan, Rosalie Small of St. Stephen, and Pamela Guthrie (Mark) of Saint-Anne; two sons, William Small (Kathy) and Phillip Small, both of Grand Manan; one sister, Flora Flagg (Roland); and one brother, Darwyn (Betty), both of Grand Manan; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, William Small.
