Wallace "Gerry" Griffin

GRIFFIN, WALLACE ROSS “GERRY” - Gerry Griffin of Saint John passed away July 3, 2012 in Saint John with his family by his side. Born in Albert, NB July of 1921 he was the son of the late William and Bessie (Dieves) Griffin. Gerry is survived by his loving daughter Judi Glover of Saint John; sons Terry (Michelle Worley) of Toronto, ON and Bruce (Tansi) of England; one sister Bea Wallace (John) of Midland; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and best friend Donna Smit of Saint John; nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Margaret E. (McLeod) Griffin; son Jerry Wayne, daughter-in-law Jean Ann; son-in-law Bob Glover and sisters Thelma, Flick and Bessie. Gerry started his career as a Saint John Fireman and finished up his career as a Car Salesman. He was a WWII Veteran and enrolled in the Army as a gunner in 1939 and was honorably discharged. His love of music took him on quite a journey in his younger days travelling with Ned Landry doing all the book keeping . He organized talent shows for the Saint John Firefighters Association which enabled them to raise enough money to buy a new bus for children with Cerebral palsy. During the later years he brought joy and music to many churches and took pride in bringing music to small country churches without the means for music. Gerry was an avid sports fanatic. These are just a few of his highlights; a huge baseball fan “Blue Jays” he travelled and visited at least 7 major league ball parks. was the Zone Rep for the New Brunswick Amateur Hockey Association; Boxing Ring announcer and judge. He also was a Track announcer at Exhibition Park. One of his greatest joys was when he managed the Sussex Dairy Kings of the Old Southern New Brunswick Hockey League.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on Thursday, July 5th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. with a Tribute to a veterans service to begin at 6:00 p.m. Celebration of Gerry’s life will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, July 6th at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Cedar Hill Extension. Donations in his memory can be made to the Extramural Program or the charity of the donor’s choice.
