Passed in: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: July 6th, 2012
Our dear Aunt Eileen McCormick, formerly of Main Street in Sydney Mines passed away, as peacefully as she had lived, on Friday, July 6, 2012, at the Northside Community Guest Home, where she had resided for the past five years.
Born in Sydney Mines on May 31, 1918, she was the youngest daughter of the late Charles and Mary Ann (Beaton) McCormick.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Eileen was a devout member of St. Pius X parish and was a charter member and past president of the CWL for over 50 years. She served her Church well until her health suffered. Eileen was a very kind and caring person who enjoyed the simple things in life. Everyone was welcomed into her family home for a bite to eat and a cup of good tea. From a very young age Eileen devoted her life to the care of others — mother, sisters and brother. Within her family she was loved and admired for this unselfish devotion.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Genevieve, Florence, Camille Whitney and Theresa MacIsaac, her brothers, Bruno, Michael, Daniel, Charlie ‘Chuck’, Frankie and William and by her special nieces, Sheila Krall and Pauline Egan.
Eileen is survived by her sister-in-law Ruth McCormick and numerous nieces and nephews.
Thanks to the staff of the Northside Guest Home for the kindness shown to Eileen and a very special thanks to Eileen’s loyal friend Jackie Tobin for her love, dedication and friendship over many years. A special thank you to Eileen’s physician and friend Dr. Michel McKeough and to Louise — your concern and devotion will never be forgotten.
Visitation today, Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A funeral mass to celebrate Eileen’s life will be held at St. Pius X Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Thomas John officiating. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Donations in Eileen’s memory may be made to the Northside Community Guest Home Foundation or a charity of choice.
