Ashley Allan Shepard
SHEPARD, ASHLEY ALLAN - The passing of Ashley Allan Shepard of Douglas, NB, loving husband of the late Marion Louise Shepard, (née Dixson), occurred on Friday, July 13, 2012 after a brief illness. Born on March 14, 1924 in Burtts Corner, he was the son of the late Allan Shepard and Bertie Shepard (née Williams). Ashley obtained a degree in Geology at UNB and worked as a geologist in the Northern Ontario mines in his earlier years. He then started a family and returned to New Brunswick, working as a teacher and principal, teaching sciences and obtained his second degree from UNB in Education. In later years, Ashley worked at the Legislative Library in Fredericton maintaining government documents. Ashley very much enjoyed being part of a male gospel quartet. He enjoyed growing a large vegetable garden and flowers but his passion was operating a family maple sugar bush in Bear Island. He was a real outdoorsman who enjoyed all aspects of nature. He was an active member of Keswick Baptist Church and their treasurer for many years. Most of all, Ashley was very family oriented, and felt a strong connection with both his community and his home province of New Brunswick. Ashley is survived by his children, Alan Shepard (Pat) of Mississauga, ON, Joan Beyette (Danny) of Napanee, ON, Gordon Shepard (Chantal) of Burtts Corner, NB, Karen McMahon (Brian) of Rothesay, NB; grandchildren, Cara, Samuel and Isabelle Shepard, Ronan and Lachlan McMahon; sister-in-law, Lorna Shepard of Burtts Corner, NB; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, Ashley was predeceased by three brothers, Garfield, Mered, and Walter Shepard.
