Harold Weaver Gilks
GILKS, HAROLD WEAVER - Mr. Harold Weaver Gilks, husband of Vesta (Clowater) Gilks, of Route 8, Blissfield, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, at the age of 95. Born in Blissfield, he was the son of the late Evelock and Annie (Weaver) Gilks. Harold was a retired scaler for Miramichi Timber Resources. He was a member of the Anglican Church and belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #23, Doaktown. Besides his beloved wife of 73 years, Vesta, he is survived by his daughters, Joyce Lapointe (Gerry) of Westport, ON, Susan Amos (Terry) of Blissfield and Sally Price (late Terry) of Fort McMurray, AB; his sons, Winston (Mona) and Evelock (Eleanor) of Blissfield; his brother, Lyman (Joyce) of Ottawa, ON; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Harold was predeceased by his daughter, Marilyn; and his son, Sherman; his sister, Essie Hurley; and six brothers, Arthur, Carl, Perley, Hubert, Ralph and Cyril Gilks.
Mr. Harold Weaver Gilks is resting at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #23, Doaktown, with visitation on Thursday from 2 to 4 pm. The funeral service will follow at the Legion at 4:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Brian J. Spence officiating. Burial will follow in Ford Hollow Cemetery, Blissfield. In his memory, donations made to the Royal Canadian Legion #23, Doaktown or to a memorial of one’s choice would be appreciated.
