Edwin "Ted" Alvah Bird, age 75, beloved husband of Pauline Bird of Shellbrook, SK passed away on Monday, January 4, 2010 at the Shellbrook Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Ted is survived by his loving family: his wife Pauline (nee Smith); his daughter Cindy (Kerry Gear); his daughter Vicki (Randy Miller)and grandchildren Danielle (Brad Collins), Kendra, Matthew, and Chase; a great-granddaughter Stevie Christine; his sister Winnie Larson; his brothers-in-law Roger (Diane) Smith and Chris (Donna) Smith as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Lily and Edwin; his step-father Ernie Souster; his brother Walter; his sisters Grace Munson and Bertha Catling; his brothers-in-law George Munson, Lawrence Catling and Robbie Smith; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Andy and Doris Smith. Dad was born on June 28, 1934 in Mont Nebo, SK, the youngest son born to Lily and Edwin Bird. In 1959 Mom and Dad married and on June 6, 2009 they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Dad retired from the Saskatchewan Penitentiary and continued to work with Brinks, the Commissionaires and odd carpentry jobs. Dad enjoyed working outdoors, bowling, watching sports, fishing and carpentry. His storytelling and laughter will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9 from St. Christopher's Anglican Church. Reverend Tracy Lloyd-Smith will officiate. Interment of cremated remains will take place at a later date.
